The pharmacy department encourages trainee pharmacists to remain after registration and a significant number have stayed with the Trust after completing their training year.
The foundation training year is viewed as the start of a three-year training programme, with pharmacists progressing to the clinical diploma. Pharmacists are encouraged to explore their interests with further training.
Completing your training in a department that offers a wide range of specialities gives you a broad background of clinical knowledge which will allow you to progress in many different directions in your future career.

The pharmacy department offers several 1-week non-paid summer work experience placements to 3rd year pharmacy undergraduates each year. These provide the opportunity to experience working in a hospital environment and to discuss the training year with current trainee pharmacists and educational supervisors.
The application window for the 2021 summer work experience placements has now closed. Information regarding 2022 summer placements will be available from October 2021.
Virtual open day
The department will be holding a virtual open day session on the afternoon of Wednesday 18th August 2021 at 2- 4pm. During the session 3rd year undergraduates will have the opportunity to learn more about the hospital, pharmacy department and the pharmacist foundation training programmes on offer.
