Learning from experienced pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in core and specialist therapeutic areas such as cardiovascular, respiratory, stroke, surgery, orthopaedics, critical care and paediatrics

Independent prescribing training for trainees who graduated against the full GPhC learning outcomes
Opportunities to experience specialist pharmacist roles with our large cohort of independent pharmacist prescribers
Flexibility that allows trainees to experience (or revisit) areas of interest
Weekly meetings with the clinical pharmacy team

Regular meetings with trainee pharmacists and designated supervisors to share practice and keep up-to-date
​
Frequent workshops aimed at preparing trainees for future practice and the GPhC registration assessment
Attendance at the NHS England training sessions which complement the work-based training and covers specific areas of the GPhC learning outcomes and Registration Assessment Framework.

Our training programme has been specially designed to help you develop from MPharm student to clinical practitioner in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice.
​
Following a full induction and workplace orientation, the rotational programme covers a wide range of therapeutic and medicines management areas, including medical & surgical specialties, haematology & oncology, palliative care, emergency care, critical care, paediatrics, and aseptics.

Throughout your training year, you will attend in-house workshops to help develop your skills as a pharmacist. We also provide access to a mock exam to help support revision for the GPhC exam. You will also complete an audit project with the support of the wider department. Trainees are also invited to departmental education sessions to support ongoing continued professional development.

You will also have an opportunity to arrange a short placement within another sector, such as community or primary care.
You will be supported by a Designated Supervisor, in addition to a Designated Prescribing Practitioner if you are undertaking the prescribing training. These supervisors will be dedicated to you to enable 1-to-1 support.
​
Towards the end of the year, you will take responsibility for your own cohort of patients under the supervision of a registered pharmacist to ease your transition into qualified life.​​​
